DRCC Session 7 Class #9

While the Jubilee paper pack is definitively country, it's still versatile and even though I live in a city, there are tons of places to go that work with this paper pack. It does help that we have the World Famous Calgary Stampede every year though...

We went to the Calgary Corn Maze last fall and I got some great shots of the pig races, chasing after chickens, going in a cow tractor ride and my munchkin just being silly on the playground. I played up the country theme by using a somewhat patchwork layout on the right and accenting it with faux stitching. I played up the corn maze aspect by inking some Milepost shapes different colors and using arrows strategically. I also stamped the title a bit more creatively than normal, but I made it easier to read by using different colors. This is one of my favorite layouts so far for this session of classes.

DRCC Session 7 Class #5

Sorry about the picture everyone. I just seem to be in such a rush lately that you're lucky to get a picture at all! Another one I will need to repost later on anyway since I do want to increase the size of the left picture to a 5x7.

This is the Ivy Lane paperpack I'm using and I do like the bold print of the flowers. It's a nice contrast with the mild pattern on the back side which is a monochromatic green. Because the layout itself has a lot going on, I kept the accents to a minimum. Some rhinestone flourishes and a flower. The lighter pink piece with the flower on the right side is for journaling, although you could turn the pages and use the darker pink as a journaling space as well.

DRCC Session 6 Class #9

I had this collection of pictures of my son that were somewhat random. They were all from when he was about a month old to when he was about 3 months old and I never knew how to group them together. I came across this layout idea in the Magic How-To book and thought that it was such a cute layout, how could I not use this in class. It was pretty easy to assemble, just a few pieces of cardstock here and there, then add the stars, pop up couple with 3D foam tape and then fake stitches around the pieces. I added some Washi tape and some star brads as well. I hope you like it as much as I do. Sometimes simple with a bit of a pop works really well.

DRCC Session 5 Class #11

This is the Unforgettable paper pack from a few years ago. I love the cherry blossom paper and the combination of the sorbet and juniper colors.

I added some 3D cherry blossoms by first stamping the outline from the Aspiration stamp set. I used the second generation stamping technique with the coordinating solid stamp in sorbet to color the petals. I also used the second generation technique for the branches and the flowers on the right side, then finished that piece with some ribbon.

DRCC Session 5 Class #9

For anyone who is visiting my blog from outside of Calgary, you should know that for the first half of July, everyone gets decked out in cowboy boots and hats for the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth - the Calgary Stampede. If you've never been, it's a really great time and lots of fun. These are some pictures from my son's first visit to the grounds. I used the Sweet Home paper pack, it's quite old, but my dear sister found me some extra paper so I thought it lent a nice quaint western look to my page. I did use the new Kraft paper for the base pages as well as the die cuts. I added some wooden buttons for embellishing as well as stitching the hemp on the bottom of the right page. I cheated and just used a pen to create the stitching on the edges of the base page.

I had fun with the title. This die cut was from the Farm Life Slice Cartridge. It originally had a lasso extending from the cowboy's arm, but I wanted to put my title inside of the loop so I trimmed it off and used hemp to double as rope. I glued the hemp to the edge of the oval piece of cardstock and then put my title on the inside. I then popped it up on my page using 3D foam.

DRCC Session 4 Class #2

The new Clementine paper pack is so versatile that you can use it for almost anything. I used it to scrapbook my niece's first birthday party, but you could use it for a western layout or anything country-esque. I embellished it with the new burlap ribbon and some hemp bows. As well as using markers to do fake stitching as borders around the base pages, journalling and my title.

DRCC Session 2 Class #10

I loved the style element of the Stella paper so when I saw the fabulous grad pictures of Sean's cousin Rebecca, I knew what I wanted to do. I decided to keep it somewhat simple because it's more about the pictures.

I wanted to bring in the colors from the border strips further onto the page so I created a flower by punching out 1 1/2" circles and arranging them with a button as the center. To finish off the page, I used a white gel pen to draw the stitched border and added some brads.

Stay tuned though as I will be teaching another 8-week session starting next Tuesday.

DRCC Session 1 Class #1

I'm teaching a scrapbooking class at the Deer Run Community Centre starting tomorrow evening, November 1, and I'm hoping to use my blog as a means to teach some other people as well. It's a 10-week course and we will be completing a 2 page layout during each class.

This is the first layout that we're doing and can be changed to be party or children themed . It's a fairly simple one to get started, but it's teaching some basics. I'm concentrating on stamping with this class, although we are using chipboard and brads as 3D embellishments. The lesson is also about continuity. You can see that I'm repeating the stitching pattern that is on the star paper on my larger chipboard stars as well as using a similar flourish in the title as in the inner stamped star on the larger stars.

Please send me a message if you're interested in joining the class.

Thanks for stopping by!

Shadowing a Title

I had originally thought up the title first because Archer was constantly putting his fingers in his mouth. Then he learnt how to take out his pacifier so it became super easy for him to eat his fingers even more often. I got some great pictures of the entire process one day when he was playing his Exersaucer. I used the Mr. Boy collection from Bella Blvd for my paper and accents. I originally tried placing the letter stickers alone on the layout, but the black lettering was just too dark against the green paper so the title almost got lost on the page.

I arranged the letters on a piece of white cardstock first, then I penciled a line around the letters an equal distance apart. Using scissors and an exacto knife, I cut out the letters to create a shadow effect for the title. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be and it really made the title pop. I finished it off with fake stitching using a white gel pen.
