Spring 2017 Scrapbooking Retreat Workshops

Hi all, I've actually finished the workshops for the retreat, before the retreat. I think this might be a record. Now hopefully I can prep them in time too. 

These cards use the Sugar Rush paper. I designed these so that they can be changed around if wanted, the You're Sweet card could be a Thank You or a Birthday card. By changing the sentiment on the front of the ice cream card, it could also change to something else. Versatility!

Father's Day Card and Mother's Day Card

The Father's Day card features the new paper pack from the Season Expression 2 catalogue called Jack (I may rave about it all weekend as I positively looove the red and black plaid). This card can also be changed to something other than Father's Day by stamping a different sentiment on the bottom. The Tea-rrific card is another versatile card as it can change depending upon the inside sentiment, but there is a matching teacup that says Happy Mother's Day that I stamped inside. This card is also using the gorgeous Live Beautifully paper that will be featured for National Scrapbooking Month in May.

Another new paper pack, No Worries is a beautiful beachy/nautical paper. I created this cute 2 page layout that is great for a lake, beach or somewhere with a tropical beverage.

Scrapaholics Unite Session 6 Class 9

In honour of our Country's 150th birthday this year, I came up with this Canada Day layout. I created my own stamp word puzzle for the red strip on the right with some phrases and pictures from a couple Canada stamp sets I have. I fit the stamps together into a square and then stamped in a brick pattern. To add some pattern, I used the Magical paper pack from last year's Seasonal Expressions catalogue. For the mountie, I stamped a mask of the mountie and then stamped a quote for the background on white cardstock for the bottom of the left page, I then separately stamped the mountie on white using red ink and cut the image out. I adhered only the part of the mountie that went onto the cardstock so that I can slide my picture in later. I curved the O Canada stamp set to fit on the ribbon cut out from the Cricut. I stamped a flag and some fireworks on the base page and made the fireworks glitter with the gold shimmer brush. I completed the layout with some red and white gems and ribbon.

Scrapaholics Unite Session 6 Class 3

This is a combination layout using a few different paper packs, Zoe, Blossom, Penelope, and Chalk It Up. The colours are all reflected in the Chalk It Up star paper. I echoed the stars on the bottom by stamping a star border on the lagoon strips. I added lagoon washi tape at the top to complement the bottom strips. With some cricut cuts of music notes and the title, plus a few fun words underneath the papers on the left side, the layout was done.

Scrapaholics Unite Session 6 Class 2

No risk of a real Sugar Rush here, it's only paper. Cute little donuts and ice creams dot the pages of the Sugar Rush paper pack. Working with this paper might make you a little hungry though. Then stamping the delectable desserts onto the page, that won't help either, plus we'll top it off with glitter! I used the new shimmer brush pen and it's pretty sweet... no mess here and it dries quick too. I shimmered sprinkled in the title and added some more to the desserts that also had sprinkles. It's a bit hard to tell so I took a close up below.

I drew on some sprinkles to echo the ones on the donuts with markers. added some glitter dots and the page was done. Don't eat it please!

Scrapaholics Unite Session 5 Class 4

This layout is a combination of the Magical paper and an old stamp set call Ticket to Ride. It was a stamp set that went with the old CTMH paper pack called Zippidee. These are all great items for Disney pictures, but I wanted a layout that was more versatile. I don't have Disney pictures so this layout will be full of some Calaway park pics from this past summer. It would also be perfect for a road trip. I also liked that this layout used the entire B&T sheet of paper including the zipstrip. I added corner arrow stamps along with stamping the road sign title and tickets. I finished off the layout with some glitter tape and some black stars. 

Scrapaholics Unite Session 4 Class 12

Happy...whatever! This layout can go any which way - to a birthday, wedding, or even just a happy day. This is the Heartstrings paper pack from 2015, but I had lots left and thought it was quite festive. I did an emboss resist technique for the cake so that the stamp detail is white, while the cake itself is inked in different colors. I finished the layout with some washi tape pennants and a little saying. There is lots of room for pictures so the format can be changed any way you need it to. I used the May Stamp of the Month for this layout, it made the cake and the accent piece. 

Scrapaholics Unite Session 4 Class 11

Welcome back to the Urban paper pack. We used this paper in a previous class for a family layout. I also purchased this super cute Teacher Appreciation Stamp Set that had this cute owl in a Grad cap that I've been dying to use (I loooove owls). I obviously don't have a real graduate, but Archer did get professional pics done for his preschool graduation last year that are just too cute. Now I just need to print the pics from his ceremony and doesn't the cool blue paper from Urban go so well with the school/graduation theme?

As for the layout, I used a cut out piece from the CTMH Artiste cartridge for the large blue background piece and accented with the slate backside of the Urban paper. The title is a cut from the Artistry cartridge and I popped in a polaroid shaped stamp from the April Stamp of the Month. You could turn this layout into a picture page as well and use all the funky cameras from the April SOTM instead of the graduating owl (there is also a globe with a grad cap on top in case you don't want the owl). 

Scrapaholics Unite Session 4 Class 6

I can't believe we're at class 6 already. I feel like it just started. It's nice that I am getting positive feedback from my students. They are loving the layouts. I'm just hoping the rest of the blogosphere is as well. This is the Urban paper and most people see masculine layouts with it. In order to appeal to the masses, I've made it more of a family layout. I used an old stamp set with stamps that fit inside a 2x2 square so these were great to fit along with this cool layout with the blocks on the side. As I just realized that I forgot to write my photo sizes on the white paper, the left picture is a 4x6 and all of the white squares on the right at 2x2. You can also fill in every square with a photo as well, or expand past the current blocks with photos too. To create the title, I cut out a shape using the Artbooking Cricut cartridge, did some background swirls underneath and then adhered with 3D foam tape. 

Scrapaholics Unite Session 4 Class 5

I have had a few people say that the didn't really like the La Vie En Rose paper pack. Now I've said this about a few before so I held my tongue about this one and just thought, well, you need to see it differently sometimes, that's all. When you see the paper in the catalogue, you're somewhat thrown off by the big bold print of the flowers that you don't notice the really cool geometric black and white patterns in it. So I decided to play it up a bit by using the new Cascading Charms stamp set along the bottom of the layout. Then with the flower paper and the black and white paper and a white matte, it really plays up the red and makes the flowers more subtle. I accented using the zip strip on the top right and added a simple title. 

Scrapaholics Unite Session 4 Class 2

I'm going to apologize in advance for the not so good picture, but you can only do so much with a phone camera. Sometimes they're pretty good, but not the best this week. This layout looks super cute in person. I'm using the Regatta paper pack with the gradient paper and on the other side of the gradient paper is a light blue stripe on white, very hard to see from here, but it is visible. To add some fun to the title, I placed the gold polka dotted Washi tape on white cardstock and cut out "Bright" with the new Artistry Cricut Cartridge. I then adhered it with 3D foam tape before stamping "Life is". I finished off the layout with more Washi tape and some antiqued brass embellishments. I also forgot to write in the sizes of the photos. All of the white papers on the pomegranate paper are representative of photo's, sorry about that, I usually write the sizes on them. 

DRCC Session 5 Class #10

This is the Later Sk8r paper from CTMH. It's mainly a boyish themed paper, but we need to represent the males sometimes, don't we? I had some fun with this one as I got to play with my new Fast and Furious stamp set. It has some super cute trucks, cars, accents and the tire tread. I stamped the dump truck twice, once in slate and then just the wheels in lagoon. I then cut out the wheels and adhered them in top of the slate colored truck with 3D foam tape.

For the title, I stamped it first on an extra piece of cardstock using the Posterboard Alphabet. I then scrunched up some tissue paper and dabbed it onto my ink pad then dabbed it on top of the letters. I repeated it with 3 different colors. I then cut the letters out and put them on the page. I like how it gives the layout a paint splattered look without a big mess.

DRCC Session #5 class 3

As you might have noticed, this is class #3 and you might be thinking that I have forgotten to post #2, well no - I'm just waiting to get a picture to add to the layout that is currently in my moms computer that is being fixed (it's got influenza, or some kind of virus). I'll try to get it posted soon, with or without the pic. It's a cute layout using the Tommy paper. 

On to this week's layout, I've used the Claire paper pack. The small squares were easy to modify by rounding 2 of the corners. I copied that aspect with the larger piece in the middle as well as the word puzzle "journaling" piece. 

To give some more whimsy to the page I added to border on the top and bottom using this cute loop border stamp set. It somewhat mirrors the design on the zip strip that I placed on top of the new Outdoor Denim Chevron ribbon that goes across the page. You can see the zip strip and the Chevron ribbon better on the close up pics below. 

To create the word puzzle, I first stamped the 2 corners with the looped stamp so that I would know where to place my words. I then arranged the stamps with the common theme (party) on the piece of paper, moving certain ones around until I had a good fit. I filled in one blank area with a flourish stamp as the space was too small for a word.

I placed one of my bigger blocks on top of the arranged stamps in order to ink them as one. I wanted to do the "It's a Party" stamp in Outdoor Denim, so I removed it from the block, but left the space so that I could fill it in later. 

I then stamped the word puzzle in colonial white and then stamped the missing "It's a Party!" stamp in the blue in the space I had left so that it stood out more. 

This is a great alternative to traditional journaling especially if you don't have a lot to say about the occasion. The clear acrylic stamps make it very easy to arrange and see how all of the stamps will fit. It's also wonderful for a card, I've made several birthday cards using this technique. 

DRCC Session 4 Class #6

I saw this layout and thought that the combination of the many patterned papers and the pennant design made this layout so interesting, yet so easy. It did make it a little bit harder to accessorize as I didn't want to make the layout even busier by over embellishing, so I decided to keep the 3D elements fairly simple, but spiced it up a bit with some heat embossing and striped stamping. This is an older paper pack from Making Memories called Spook Alley, but I paired it with CTMH card stock and inks.

I used black heat embossing to stamp these cute little pictures and this adorable saying, then I cut them out and adhered them with 3D foam tape.

To make the title striped, I first inked the word all over in the Sunset colour, if you are using different colours, stamp the lightest colour first. 

I then stamped a portion of the word using the very edge of the Smokey Plum ink pad or darker coloured ink. 

Then I stamped another stripe further up the stamp again, but held the lock with the stamp at an angle. 

I  repeated until I had a few stripes on my word stamp. 

Then I just stamped as normal on to the card stock. 

DRCC Session 4 Class #1

After a great summer, I'm ready to get back into the swing of things. This session will be 12 weeks long so that means 12 great layouts to scrap. With the new Idea Book, there are some really nice papers that you'll be seeing. This layout uses paper from La Belle Vie. I thought it worked well for a more loving layout. I used the new Tulle ribbon and also cut out some die cuts and Je t'aime from my Slice cartridge J'adore. Please come back later this week to see what I've posted for class next time.

DRCC Session 3 Class #7

This started out as a fairly simple layout, I added a touch of Sunset here and there and then I found these great chipboard banner pieces. It was easy enough to cover them, it was adding the 3D element. Folded paper just didn't seem to work. So off I went to 2 different scrapbooking stores. I finally found some Olive (I was looking for a dark navy color, but no luck) grosgrain ribbon with stitching so that I could pull the inside stitch together to create the circle. After that it was easy enough to add some cute stamps and glue dot it all together.

DRCC Session 3 Class #5

I slightly struggled with this layout as I wasn't sure what to put in the blank space on the left side of the layout or how to do the title. I finally decided to stamp my title in Twilight and add a bit of flourish with a small flower stamp in Cocoa on each letter. If you have extra pictures, which I may look for to go with this event, you can always add more on the right side of the layout. 

To fill in the blank space on the left side, I stamped a large flourish and then created a pocket for my journaling tag. I affixed the brad through both ends of the ribbon, but hid the back of the brad behind the flower. 

DRCC Session 2 Class #8

Footloose is my new favorite paper pack I think. I love the bright Lagoon blue color and the sun on the Creme Brulee paper is so cute. I had some great pictures from our trip to Manitoba of my nieces playing at the lake. They were all being such silly girls, yet having so much fun that day. I used the Summer Slice cartridge to cut out "beach" and the sandcastle. For "bums" I used the shadow feature with the Playground Fonts cartridge. 

I wanted to capture all of the feelings that a beach could give you with my background paper so I created my own background with a stamp. I took 3 different stamp sets, arranged the specific stamps on a block and then repeatedly stamped on my base pages with Creme Brulee ink. One of a kind paper that goes perfectly with my layout and superbly with my pictures. Hope you like it and thanks for stopping by!

DRCC Session 2 Class #6

I used the Florentine paper pack for this layout. It has some great colors that complement snow and blue sky shots so it's very versatile for any scenic pictures. I used Cocoa ink and clear embossing powder for the "what a" using the Trinity Alphabet. I stamped "view" in Twilight ink using the Rustic alphabet on a piece of colonial white cardstock, which I then cut out and popped up using 3D foam tape. 

In order to add more pictures, I made a trifold out mini book on my layout. I took a 7x4" length of creme brulee cardstock and used a border punch on one end. After adhering my front picture, I folded the leftover piece of cardstock. 

I then used a 12x4" piece of Colonial White cardstock and folded it in half. I adhered my photo's to 3 sides with the folded portion to the right side. 

I attached the Creme brulee cardstock to the underside of the middle panel and attached ribbon to form a closure. 

DRCC Session 2 Class #4

I used the Pemberly paper pack for this layout. I like the continuation of the lighter blue patterned paper as it appears to be underneath the picture and continues on the the right side. For the title, I had to create the banner from scratch. I took a stamp of an ice cream cone and stamped it on my cardstock. Then I cut out the triangles, flipped them over and then stamped dreams on to my banner. I used tape runner to keep them in place before inserting my brads.

DRCC Session 2 Class #1

Hello Ladies, Welcome back to class and a warm welcome to the new ladies who will be joining us. We're going to be having lots of fun with the new papers from CTMH this session. I can't wait to start working with them. This weeks class I pulled out an oldie (but a goodie) paper pack that I have called Boom-di-ada. It's got some great colors and is perfect for flirty girlie pictures. As it's the first class of a new session, I figured I would ease everyone back into the swing of things with an easier layout.

I overlapped the words on the title to give it a bit more depth than normal and added a ric rac bow for an accent.
