Spring 2018 Retreat Make n Take's

Here are the samples of the make n takes for the retreat I'm hosting next weekend in Banff.

2-PAGE LAYOUT CLASS

I used the Chelsea Gardens paper pack for this layout. I adored the January stamp of the month that has this great seed packet stamp set that you can replace the centre of it with different phrases. I cut the beautiful flowers and pot from the Cricut Flower Market cartridge as well as the Springtime title. I'm hoping that it will get warm enough so we can actually plant some flowers so I can fill this layout with some pictures!

MINI CARD WORKSHOP

I picked up these cute stamp sets along with the matching die-cuts during the die-namite sale in March. They match perfectly with the Stargazer paper and lately I'm really getting into colouring in the die-cuts with my Shin Han markers. For these cards, you could do 2 boy cards or 2 girl cards as an option if you'd like.

WARM FUZZY CARDS

These cute mini cards are great for sending a quick birthday, thank you or thinking of you note. You can stamp whichever sentiment you would like on these cards as I have lots of options.

Session 8 Class 9

I found this great pack in my old stash somewhere, no idea where I got it from, but it has this great alphabet paper and some great bold patterns in it. I have just enough for kits this week with this layout. I used the School kids stamp set and thin cuts for the kids, apple and school. I had a bit of fun with colouring in the kids and the school, but if you wanted to colour in only a few items on them, it would still look cute. In another stamp set I have a cute chalkboard that would work for a few sayings on the inside, or leave it blank and use it for journalling. Feel free to place whichever sized pictures throughout the layout as I know that school pictures are usually either a bit bigger or a bit smaller than the 3x3's. Using another stamp set could also transform this layout into a cute primary one for a kid wearing bright colours or a party. I finished off this layout with some twine and I also added a stamp that is a folder tab underneath the top of the large photo.

Session 8 Class 5

This is an old paper pack, but such a cute one. This is Cherry-o from a few years back, but it has such cute paper I've been wanting to incorporate it into a class. I like this layout because it allows me to use the many pieces of patterned paper, yet it's not a busy layout. I accented the layout by using the polka dot embossing folder on the left side on the blue cardstock. I added some baker's twine and stamped some cherries for the bottom right page. I also stamped a few sentiments on cardstock to accent some pictures. Feel free to place them wherever you like.

Session 8 Class 3

I was saying goodnight to my son and the famous line "I love you to the moon and back"  from the wonderful book, Guess How Much I Love You, popped into my head. Lightbulb moment I guess as I had been struggling all day to come up with an idea for this weeks class. I played around with the CTMH stamp with the saying and the new Stargazer paper as I didn't want this layout to be overly gender specific. I like that the title box isn't overpowering the layout, but you can still see it since I used a mask to create the double coloured image. I random stamped the stars around the image and then adhered the moon with 3D foam. I used the star image from the Charming Cascades stamp set in the corners of the base pages and then completed the layout with a rocket and Saturn cut with the Cricut. As the rocket ship paper is quite busy, it was important to find balance and not have it crowd the page.

Scrapaholics Unite Session 7 Class 2

If you need a place to put some colourful photo's then this is the layout for you. Using the Little Dreamer paper from the last Seasonal Expressions book. You could make this layout more magical by flipping the paper and using the rainbow unicorn side. It is fabulous! To add some shine, I used the foil tape along the top and added some Bitty Sparkles around the stars. I also used my Cuttlebug to cut out the rainbow half circle shape and the banner prior to stamping them. If you are going to use the rainbow unicorn paper, I do also have the coordinating die cut and stamp set as an option instead of the rainbow.

Scrapaholics Unite Session 7 Class 1

I admit it, I'm obsessed with the Jack paper pack, but I have a weakness for red and black plaid. Unfortunately the bulk paper doesn't use the red and black plaid, but it does have this cute tree print. Alternatively the back side of the tree print is a cool lumberjack pattern. I'll leave it up to you on which side you prefer for your layout, they are both pretty cool. I used a double layered Cricut cut for the title and stamped various images and sentiments throughout the layout. I accented with a few triangle studs.

Scrapaholics Unite Session 6 Class 12

I've been waiting for the right layout to use this cool stamp set, called Ink Blot, for the random stamping on the background on the base pages. I like the bright colours from the Some Kinda Wonderful paper and wanted to play them up. I also echoed the same colours in the title using a large Alphabet stamp, Rustic Alphabet, and cut them out and popped them up. To finish off, I added some black shimmer trim.

Scrapaholics Unite Session 6 Class 11

This layout has a preview of the May stamp of the Month, called Live, Laugh, Love (S1705). I've always loved this saying and the letters with the flowers inside are just beautiful. I decided not to colour the flowers in on this layout as I liked the look of the green myself, but I encourage my students to do so if they would like to. This layout uses the Hello Lovely paper along with Sorbet and Sea Glass cardstock. I like that while there is minimal patterned paper, it is still very impactful and has lots of room for pictures.  To complete the layout, I added some gems in the Sea Glass and Sorbet colours, then some washi tape and the blush shimmer ribbon. This layout is great for family, heritage, spring, or any occasion where there is lots of love and laughter.

Scrapaholics Unite Session 6 Class 8

With spring break happening this week, Easter is right around the corner. This super cute bunny stamp set was the February stamp of the month. I paired it with the Dreamin' Big floral paper. For the title, I stamped it multiple times in Whisper gray and once in Poppy red to make it pop. I coloured in the flowers on the top border stamp to add some colour. I added accents to the patterned paper on the right side and then completed that side with the cute "There's nobunny like you" stamp.
I have made this layout with an optional advanced technique which I detail in the steps below by stamping on Washi tape and then cutting out and placing on top of the original stamps.

First, select washi tape that is wide enough for the portion of the stamp that will be cut out.
Place the washi tape on wax paper and stamp the portion on the stamp onto it using archival black or Staz-on ink.

Cut out most of the stamp, leaving part of the image uncut. Then peel off of the wax paper and finish cutting the washi tape. If you do not remove the partially cut image prior to finishing the cutting, it makes it very hard to peel afterwards - I tested and tried and failed twice before realizing this so please heed my words!

Adhere the cut out piece directly on top of the fully stamped image. I'm loving the pattern and dimension these cute shirts lend my little rabbit family.

This is the layout prior to adding the washi tape shirts. This is the easier layout and just as cute as it only requires stamping and a bit of colouring on the top border of the flowers. I should mention I forgot to add the buttons prior to taking the picture so please be aware that the buttons are still part of the layout. As an alternative, you can also stamp Happy Spring instead of Happy Easter or another saying.

Scrapaholics Unite Session 6 Class 6

The more I look at this layout, the more versatile it becomes to me. I used 3 different paper packs left over from previous classes to create this layout but used the stamp sets to really set the theme. Instead of a road trip, this could also be a great overseas layout such as Europe. Because of the scrabble paper and the lettering, just change the stamp set and title used and it would also make a great school layout. Since I already held my north blitz class this past Sunday, a few of the ladies used the province stamps instead of the van. They also selected a different title that was more suited to their destination.

To finish off the layout, I inked the edges of the base pages with black ink and sanded down the black photo mat cardstock to also distress. I used arrow washi tape and placed it around the layout directing your eye from one side of the layout to the other in a bit of a maze pattern. I also incorporated a metal arrow on the top right into my arrow maze. This also adds some 3d dimension. After stamping my images on colonial white cardstock, I cut them out and popped them up with 3D foam tape. I stamped my title directly to the base page.

Scrapaholics Unite Session 6 Class 5

In my wish for warmer weather and to be able to be outside for longer than 10 minutes without freezing, I created this cute BBQ/Picnic layout. This is the Dreamin Big paper pack and I love the use of the Poppy red, Slate grey and Juniper colours together. I played up the red a bit more in this layout because I always think of a red checked table cloth for a picnic.

I only used one side of the patterned paper as I will be using the opposite side, a beautiful floral, in an upcoming class (maybe with some cute bunnies on it...). To add some dimension, I embossed the long Poppy strips with the Wood Slats folder to make it look like a picnic table. In order to get the entire strip embossed, I did one half, then flipped the paper and embossed the other half. Because it's an uneven pattern and it's going to be covered up eventually, I didn't worry about the middle section aligning.

I made the title block using Cricut Craft Room and the Artistry Cartridge. It was super easy to size the title and to then also cut the rectangle to the correct proportions. The far right block I just stamped a BBQ and a few accessories, but you can leave it blank for journalling or place another picture there. I then added the Poppy twine.

To complete the layout, I cut up some words from the zipstrip and added some sequins in the bottom right

Scrapaholics Unite Session 5 Class 7

I think when you see this layout in person you will like it even more! I had a couple of paper packs left of a CTMH Promotion from last spring called Happy Times. It has this gorgeous floral paper echoed throughout the pack in different ways, one is beautiful pink with shiny gold outlined flowers, while another is a full coloured version, then a white with a mint/teal green outline. You can see all three different papers in the close up below. I wanted to use these many papers in the layout, without using large pieces of this very busy paper. Plus I needed to have enough for all my students. I saw a similar layout on Pinterest and decided to adapt the layout with this paper pack here to make a patchwork type of background.

To finish off the layout, I used this adorable sewing stamp set for the title, hearts on the right side and the cute banner on the top left page. I also used the gold striped paper from the paper pack and made a band across the page and matted it in pomegranate cardstock. Last piece was the white and gold ribbon around the 5x7 mat.

Scrapaholics Unite Session 5 Class 5

Just in time for Halloween, I have made a spooky-cute layout. This is using the new Jeepers Creepers paper pack. I added some washi tape elements, along with some glitter tape and thick twine for some dimension. I played up the eyes on the paper by making eyes out of the O's in Boo for the title. I then finished it off with some cute stamped monsters and popped them up with 3D foam. I know it looks a little white right now, but once the pictures are on it, it will be spooktacular. If I remember, I will add my pics and update this post.

Scrapaholics Unite Session 5 Class 4

This layout is a combination of the Magical paper and an old stamp set call Ticket to Ride. It was a stamp set that went with the old CTMH paper pack called Zippidee. These are all great items for Disney pictures, but I wanted a layout that was more versatile. I don't have Disney pictures so this layout will be full of some Calaway park pics from this past summer. It would also be perfect for a road trip. I also liked that this layout used the entire B&T sheet of paper including the zipstrip. I added corner arrow stamps along with stamping the road sign title and tickets. I finished off the layout with some glitter tape and some black stars.

Scrapaholics Unite Session 5 Class 3

Amidst all this snow we've been having let's warm up and with a nice summer layout. This is using the Calypso paper pack. I used one side as my base pages and then used the other side of the paper for the blue strips on the top and bottom then the zipstrips for the colourful words along the top of the layout. I added a journaling block on the left page and embellished with a stamped tree and some stamped circles and hearts then popped them up with 3D foam tape on top of the tree. The versatility of the layout is nice as you can put pictures in whichever arrangement suits you best. I just highlighted one picture by placing it on a Lagoon mat. I finished it off with some pink polka-dotted washi tape and a Pear title cut from the CTMH Artbooking cartridge.

Scrapaholics Unite Session 5 Class 2

I had some leftover paper from previous classes that I thought would come together quite nicely for a fall layout. This layout is using 4 different paper packs, but all with a common colour, Sunset. I have also used Cocoa, Pomegranate and Slate to bring in the secondary colours throughout the paper packs. I have to say that I'm quite impressed with how everything came together. I also chose to use the September stamp of the month, Blessed Beyond Measure, which has this super cute pumpkin and some adorable thankful sayings on it. I used the CTMH Artbooking cartridge for the leaves, vine and pumpkin, then used the Artistry cartridge for the title. I added fall words around the edge of the blocks to frame everything in. See below for a quick and easy step by step on my multi-toned leaves.

Supplies needed: 2 inks and a sponge.
First, you sponge the lighter coloured ink all over the leaf. I used Sunset here.
Take the darker colour (Pomegranate) and ink around the edges of the leaf leaving the centre the Sunset colour. Also concentrate more of the ink to the edge of the leaf by going over the outsides more than once until the desired blending is achieved.

Scrapaholics Unite Session 5 Class 1

Welcome back! I have had quite the busy summer, but the nice thing is that I have lots of pictures to scrapbook. I will definitely be using our adventures in the summer as inspiration for some class layouts this session. This first layout is using the Florence paper from a few Seasonal Expression catalogues ago. It has a beautiful subtle pattern in both the red and yellow papers. The zipstrip also has this beautiful flower detail on it that I used as inspiration for the title block and the quote papers. I added some 3D dimension by stamping the title twice and cutting out the Love and popping it up with 3D foam. As well, I only adhered the middles of the flowers and bent the petals up so that they stick up. I finished off the layout with some sequins and some a bit of journaling inside one of the pennants.

Scrapaholics Unite Session 4 Class 10

I'm not sure if anyone remembers this paper, but it's call Summer Celebration. It was a promotion a while back and I've always wanted to use this paper with the coordinating stamp set, but just couldn't find a the perfect layout. Well I saw some inspiration with the right page and all the little strips of paper and thought it made the very bright prints work really well together. This is a great layout for a paper pack you have left over that you don't have lots of paper left, just a few pieces, it could really work any which way, either horizontal or vertical. I added some cardstock as well as the cute phrases to play up the summer fruit theme. It could also be split up to be 2 separate one page layouts since I used the "Orange you sweet" on the left and "Pucker Up" on the right. The little piece on the bottom says "You're Berry Special". I'm thinking of using some pictures from berry and fruit picking in Kelowna on this layout. I finished it off with some glitter tape and some glitter gems.

Scrapaholics Unite Session 4 Class 6

I can't believe we're at class 6 already. I feel like it just started. It's nice that I am getting positive feedback from my students. They are loving the layouts. I'm just hoping the rest of the blogosphere is as well. This is the Urban paper and most people see masculine layouts with it. In order to appeal to the masses, I've made it more of a family layout. I used an old stamp set with stamps that fit inside a 2x2 square so these were great to fit along with this cool layout with the blocks on the side. As I just realized that I forgot to write my photo sizes on the white paper, the left picture is a 4x6 and all of the white squares on the right at 2x2. You can also fill in every square with a photo as well, or expand past the current blocks with photos too. To create the title, I cut out a shape using the Artbooking Cricut cartridge, did some background swirls underneath and then adhered with 3D foam tape.

Scrapaholics Unite Session 4 Class 5

I have had a few people say that the didn't really like the La Vie En Rose paper pack. Now I've said this about a few before so I held my tongue about this one and just thought, well, you need to see it differently sometimes, that's all. When you see the paper in the catalogue, you're somewhat thrown off by the big bold print of the flowers that you don't notice the really cool geometric black and white patterns in it. So I decided to play it up a bit by using the new Cascading Charms stamp set along the bottom of the layout. Then with the flower paper and the black and white paper and a white matte, it really plays up the red and makes the flowers more subtle. I accented using the zip strip on the top right and added a simple title.
